Healthcare Management In Kenya In The Digital Age

Background: The world is galloping into the Digital Age which is the 4th Industrial Revolution. The Digital age is characterized by “Big Data” which is data of high volume, velocity, and variety. With effective information governance, a lot of value can be released through enhanced decision-making for competitive advantage in organizations. Healthcare is a fundamental right and every human being is entitled to the highest standards of attainable healthcare. Globally, there is a need to adopt technology in healthcare for innovative solutions to the emerging challenges in healthcare. Objective: To assess the healthcare systems in Kenya and identify critical resource issues and emerging challenges. To provide evidence-based solutions including exploration of technological solutions and potential opportunities. Methods: Secondary data was collected from relevant published sources. Issues in the healthcare systems in Kenya were highlighted, followed by an evidence-based discussion on the recommended solutions including technological solutions and opportunities. Findings: Significant challenges were identified in the key inputs of the healthcare system as well as emerging issues. Discussion and recommendation: Kenya needed to invest more in technology and innovations to enhance the availability and efficient management of resources for the optimization of the healthcare system. Technology and innovations improve efficiencies mainly in areas of data and information management, service delivery, diagnostics, treatments, education, research, investments, telemedicine, devices and industry partnerships. Further, technology and innovations provide transformative changes in the healthcare system including, optimized productivity, improved access, cost reduction, improved quality, and better health outcomes. Towards the achievement of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Kenya.
