Endonasal Endoscopic Pituitary Tumor Surgery For Macroadenomas- The Baby Steps
Abstract
Surgical management of pituitary tumors provide a definitive treatment of choice for most pituitary macroadenomas. The novel trans nasal endoscopic approach to the sella turcica and the anterior skull base has added a new dimension of versatility to pituitary surgery and can be adapted to many lesions in the region. The adoption of this route of surgery can be limited by the cost of setup and the learning curve. In this article, surgical challenges in the phase of transitioning to endonasal endoscopic surgery from microsurgery in the first 25 cases and how they were overcome are described.
