Abstract

Body of Research: Access to surgical care in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) such as countries in the Sub-Saharan Africa is still extremely limited which causes a burden on the health care systems.  In the recent years, Africa has made remarkable achievements in the healthcare sector, including introduction of innovative solutions in health sector. Part of those innovative solutions includes the introduction of Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) through short term programs to increase productivity of surgeons and lessen hospitalization time for the patients. IRCAD Africa is conscious of the current surgical scene in Africa and very well understands that there will be several steps to follow and issues to tackle before its training courses are strictly on MIS like its mirror institutions elsewhere in the world. IRCAD Africa is set to be in Kigali, Rwanda and will open its doors early 2023, offering training to african surgeons in MIS in various surgical discipline including Neurosurgery. It will be the first of its kind to offer advanced hands-on 360 cadaveric Skull base Courses (both endoscopic and Open) on the African continent. To have an IRCAD, on the continent offers an enormous advantage to the African surgeons and Africans in general. IRCAD Africa brings a world-renowned education on the African continent making it accessible to the African surgeons and comes in as long term and sustainable solution for the trainings of african surgeons and continued innovation, research in the surgical sector. Soon, African surgeons will not have to travel cross continent to receive the best training in surgery since it will available right at home.
