Abstract

Neurosurgeons in sub-Saharan African countries face challenges unique to the region. There are few training centers in the region. Most centers have regular Continuing Medical Education (CME) Programs to serve their needs. Regular Peer-reviews of the workload may not be possible due to lack of similar programs/services at that level in the region. Such opportunities may only arise during annual continental, global or regional conferences. We review one avenue currently available in the region for neurosurgical continuing medical education in Low and Middle Income (LMIC) sub Sahara African Countries. Surgical Neurology International-Digital, has sought to address this short-coming by offering a platform for neurosurgeons and allied specialists in sub-Saharan Africa to meet online and share their experiences in patient management as a form of online digital publication. This service is available at no-charge for which we are eternally indebted. We present our one year experience, the diversity of cases presented and lessons learnt. We also send a clarion call to all global neurosurgeons to join us in the promotion of this worthwhile cause through this platform.
